Have you ever been to Las Vegas: I have a blood feud with LV. Lemme splain. L had an internship in CA after she graduated, and when it was done I flew out so we could drive back together. Our first night we figured we’d stop in Vegas, because millions of hotels, right? WRONG. There were apparently half a dozen big conferences in town. We could find no hotel rooms within a hundred and fifty miles of Las Vegas. We ended up stopping at like 4 a.m. in friggin’ Utah and the hotel kicked us out at 10 a.m. At least we got an extra day to explore Zion National Park. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: fuck you, Vegas. You know what you did.
Favorite pair of shoes: I have a pair of slightly shiny black leather sneakers from a little shop in Florence, because when the hell was I going to be back in Italy
Favorite fruit: mangos
Favorite book: ONE? JFC. Can I say three-way tie between Naomi Novik’s Temeraire, Gaiman & Pratchett’s Good Omens, and Haruki Murakami’s The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle?
Stupidest thing you’ve ever done: probably miscalculating and being one credit short of graduation during my fourth attempt at college and having to beg one of my profs to give me a one-cred independent project on very short notice; thank you Jackie for being amazingly kind and gracious to a dumb supersenior

I have not been keeping up on The Rasslin’ all that much, though I gotta say I’ve seen some NXT PPVs and I have been super impressed. I was more into it around the turn of the century, from late ECW (late night cable! whooo) through the early 2000s.
Faves? Oh jeez, so many. Eddie Guerrero, Rey Misterio Jr., CIMA, Masato Yoshino, Genki Horiguchi, TAKA Michinoku, Chris Daniels, Bryan Danielson, Chris Jericho, Mistico, Los Guerreros del Infierno, Ric Flair, Ricky Steamboat, Randy Savage…
I loved the Smackdown Six era. I lovingly recreated my favorite wrestlers in Fire Pro Wrestling D on the Dreamcast and the best wrestling game ever, Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 on the N64. I loved it when Edge & Christian teamed up with Kurt Angle to form the best American comedy heel stable ever. I was crushed and angered when the man who had arguably been the greatest wrestler of all time killed his family and committed suicide. I got to see Hotstuff Hernandez casually sailing over the top rope to the outside at an indie show and it was one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen a guy that big do. And when I went to Japan last year, about four hours after I touched down, I was at Korakuen Hall in Tokyo for a Dragon Gate show, where a friend of a friend who was working for the promotion got me a front row seat, and I got to see stuff like this up close:
As for current wrestlers, I dig Sasha Banks, Apollo Crews, The Vaudevillains, and whoever El Generico, Kevin Steen, PAC, KENTA, and Prince Devitt are calling themselves these days.
24. Describing my relationship with my father could take up an entire blog’s worth of posts. Or therapy sessions. He’s… difficult. Suffice it to say that he’s a (now retired) Asian medical doctor with severe control issues and narcissistic personality disorder. My adolescence was less fun than it could have been. And now it’s heartbreaking to see what Alzheimer’s is doing to him.
25. My mom is a trooper. She’s got her own issues, but she’s a good person and she deserves a medal for having put up with, and taken care of, my dad for all these years.

45. Regrets? I’ve had a few. Mostly missed opportunities.
53. My first kiss was, embarrasingly enough, on stage with a friend of mine back in middle school. Neither of us had any experience, we both went in too fast and ended up knocking teeth, it was a mess.
54. I grew up reasonably well off, though I didn’t much realize it at the time. I was pretty insulated. I figured everyone had a house (and most of my friends did. The middle class was still a thing back when I was growing up).
74. I’m sure I have been hurt by someone who was hurting. It’s been ages, though, and it didn’t really stick.
75. I’ve only broken up with a couple of past girlfriends; mostly I was the one getting dumped because I was a teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrible boyfriend. The couple of times I initiated it were because the passion had died out on my end.
