chastmastr asked:

I'm a massive DC fan (and a massive Marvel fan (heck, I'm just massive, but working on my weight)), and I cheered when you commented on the whole Man of Steel dark/joyless thing--precisely BECAUSE I'm a fan of DC's characters when they're at their best. If I didn't love Superman, I wouldn't be too bothered by the neck-snapping and everything else.

brevoortformspring answered:

Exactly, me too.

DC needs to realize that Superman does not anything to be changed about him or his character in order for him to work as a character. He does not need a new costume, different powers, a different haircut, a mullet, or anything really.

Superman is about hope. end of discussion. and when DC loses sight of the hopefulness of Superman, it goes downhill. and quick. unfortunately, DC lost that hopefulness in Superman a long time ago.

and as a huge fan of Superman, it has made it hard for me to continually read the comics. essentially, I now look for instances of Superman being Superman, which are few and far between as of late.
