Something you should always do with these kinds of maps is look at a population density map to make sure the map isn't just showing you where people live.
Population map:
Good, we can see there's not just a correlation between where people are dying and where people live. In fact, in some cases, places with cities can actually have a higher life expectancy! So the correlation clearly isn't "more people = more death". In the north, the city-to-longer-life correlation is likely caused by those cities being more liberal and having better healthcare policies.
But that trend only seems to work for cities in the north and for California. For the south and the Midwest, there isn't much of a correlation at all.
Now let's look at a poverty map.
There's a correlation. Notice the poverty map includes regions that correlate with lower life expectancy that the racial map does not, like Kentucky, West Virginia, and Alaska. No clear explanation for why the life expectancy in Nevada is so low, though.
That doesn't mean race has nothing to do with this or that there isn't a correlation between race and life expectancy - there are a few parts on the racial map that correspond to the life expectancy map that don't show up on the poverty map, too!
It's clear that both race and poverty, both combined and independently, play a role in lower life expectancy.
When looking at these maps for correlations. You don't just look at Black American population. You look at Native American population because an overwhelming percent of the Native American population in the United States lives in poverty. Plus the government has a habit of polluting their water source.
Nevada and Alaska specifically have really high indigenous populations.
But the south western states are also where tribal lands are.
That shows the correlations that the Black and poverty maps don't show.

I’m very tired. you probably heard that Russia destroyed the Kakhovka Dam to slow Ukraine’s counter offensive. here’s something I didn’t quite realize: since this February, the Russians operated the dam in juuuuust the right way so that as much water would build up as possible when the snow melted and spring showers started. and then they blew the whole thing up.

KSE Foundation: similar to the above, KSE has multiple projects you can choose from to donate to. looking at it right now, one of the projects with the lowest amounts of money raised thus far - despite being started in April - is Seeds for Ukraine, which will help Ukraine recover from the ecological devastation Russia has been wreaking (and with Ukraine, the countries that rely on Ukraine’s grain exports that Russia keeps trying to steal).

United24: Zelenskyy’s brain child, and the official fundraising platform of Ukraine. Mark Hamill recommends the fundraisers for drones in particular.
UAnimals: Nova Kakhovka’s zoo got… pretty much completely swept away. all zoo residents except the birds have drowned. UAnimals has tried throughout the occupation to keep the animals safe, and they’ve been reporting on the status of the zoo. I don’t really know what to say except that I hope they’re able to save the pets and strays in the towns along the river.

For anyone who doesn't know the history (or isn't American and doesn't know what this means)
In the 70s Christian Broadcasting Network founded a family TV channel they later sold. When they sold it they included a clause saying the new owners have to give them a timeslot for The 700 Club, and let them take over the network a couple times a year for a full day of fundraising.
During this time their family channel passed through the ownership of Fox and ABC, and during its time as ABC Family it gravitated towards teen dramas. Its brand now is actually not just teen dramas, but often queer, diverse teen dramas. Meanwhile they've been forced to platform a show where the host calls 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina God's punishment for homosexuality (there's also rumors that they forced the network to keep "Family" in the name long after it became a teen network)
By all accounts they've been offered copious amounts of Disney Money and have turned it down every time. The contract is so ironclad Disney lawyers can't find a way to get out of it. Their contract also mandates they can't bury it late at night either, so The 700 Club airs at 10/9 in the morning and 11/10 at night (the latter prevents Freeform from launching any kind of late night block), with disclaimers in front of it. like. there's a weird misconception that it's old people, but i have never once had an issue with anyone over the age of, like, 55. they are fine with me muttering to myself or making weird faces or not hearing them the first five times they call my name. that's not a problem for them. when my brother goes out with a cane, they're the ones who compliment it, and tell him the spikes and ribbons are a cute addition.
yesterday this pink haired girl in the bathroom told me that i needed to stay away from movie theaters if i was going to act like a schizo. ten minutes later an 80 year old woman complimented me on my bright red hearing aids and said she wished she had that confidence when she got hers.
